My Review of 50 Cent's "The Big 10" (with exclusive producer insight!)

Lets face it… It's been a good minute since 50 cent has been relevant music wise, not having released a project since 2009, and even that one wasn't exactly a gem. In this industry, thats ample time to have left fans with an out of sight out of mind mentality so this mixtape couldn't have come sooner. The general consensus seems to have been that fans were hoping for the best out of this release, but being prepared for the worst.

1. Body On It [Jake one]- This skit seems to come out of nowhere, even with it being news reports from 50's old hood, but as soon as the beat from Jake Uno drops none of that matters. Sounding to be crafted just for 50, body on it is solid and hopefully a taste of things to come from 50.

Jake One on creating Body On It: "That was a beat I made with 50 in mind. He always raps over 1 bar loops so I did that and tried to do a interesting turnaround"

2. Niggas Be' Schemin' [Twice As Nice]- Reminiscent of Get Rich or Die Tryin's "Many Men" and "What Up Gangsta," Schemin' embodies that same feel that made 50 a household name. Overall production is simple with hard drums and dirty hi hats paving the backdrop for sinister guitars strings and pianos. I think the producers on this one may have studied his old stuff and taken it a little too literally instead of bringing something new to the sound, but either way it worked for 50.

3. Queens, NY: [EQ]- Up & coming producer EQ with some dope chop work that rides with a continuous instrument feel, but a simple production that leaves you waiting for more or for something to drop in. This however is exactly the type of track that 50 feels comfortable spittin on, and if he was aiming to make a track that brings us back to what made us love him then he succeeded. The feature from female rapper Paris though, unfortunately sounds like a Remy Ma stand in.

EQ on creating Queens NY: "My creative approach to the "Queens, NY" track was initiated by a gritty Wu-Tang-ish sound that drives the track...giving it that influence. The grunge guitar gave it that grimy (throw back) NY Hip Hop edge...then the drums gave it that 50 Cent appeal… the rest is history!!!!" (@fulldeckent @exceptionalQ)

4. I just Wanna/ Skit: [d.r.u.g.s.]- Producer d.r.u.g.s. takes KC and The Sunshine Band's "Thats the Way" and destroys it. Great chop work and hard drums make this a banger for 50 and Yayo to trade verses to. Many producers would think the sample was "untouchable" but d.r.u.g.s. puts his hands all over it.

D.R.U.G.S on creating I Just Wanna: "I don't know what to say about this one, but I will say this…This track almost didn't happen. I had chopped the samples so small and I had no direction. It was my homegirl A.J. who convinced me to just [sit] down with it and take my time. Then I laid the drums and i forced it to work. What I'm saying is.. if you asked me to re-create this track, it wouldn't happen lol."

5. Shootin' Guns [Dj Kahlil]- From the moment the beat drops and the vocals start you can tell its a Kahlil production and it's a PROBLEM, one of the dopest and most complete cuts on the project. This is def a street anthem, but Khalil and 50 somehow make shooting guns sound radio ready.

[Here is some of what Khalil had to say in my phone interview with him about the making of this track]:

Can you give a little insight on the creative process for the making of [Shootin Guns]?

"I was working with Danny my keyboard player [Danny Keys] and Liz Rodrigues from The New Royales, the band that I'm in… Danny started to play this main melody and it was dope, it was crazy… Liz started singing along with it so i was like yo go in the booth and sing it, follow the melody. I had her do like 6 or 7 tracks of the main vocal and then had Danny go in [the booth].. he did 6 or 7 tracks of the same melody… Then I had them both go in there and yell it. I just put an overall mix on their vocals, kind of following the organ line… after that I had accidentally dropped everything out so it was just the vocals by itself… and we all just looked at each other… it just sounded so crazy, like we sampled it from somewhere [with] the blend of everything. Then I ran it thru Guitar Rig [Native Instruments] and a bunch of diff racks. From there we started adding more organs and adding more crashes and stuff to [give it] that live rock feel. It ended up sounding like we sampled it off a southern rock album. … Then we worked on the hook Liz wrote for it (sings) got my guns and magazines… 50 changed some of the words and had a singer redo the same thing. Liz was the original singer, but 50 had someone else do it because he had changed a few of the words and Liz was in Toronto so it was hard to get [in the studio]. I like the singer that 50 got, it sounds good.. it's a little different than the original, but I like it.. I'm still always going to be married to the original" (laughs)

I know you use Reason a lot, is that what you used on this track?

"I used Reason and Pro Tools. All the organs were in Reason, Drums, everything except the vocal parts. All the vocals were tracked out and separated, I don't even remember the [exact] process for what I did with that. I actually have to remember how I did that because I need to start using whatever I did on that, and a lot of it" (laughs)

Was this a track that was created specifically for 50?

"That track had been floatin' around for a while, just one of those tracks that been out there for a min nobody was biting on. Then all the sudden we had like 3 different artists that wanted it, another artist named Don Tripp had already recorded to it, and a few ppl started demoing it [but] then it ended up going to 50, 50 really liked it. I didn't actually know it was going to go on the mixtape, I found out the night before it dropped. I didn't even hear it (the final version) until a few days after it dropped, I didn't have time to listen… was dealing with some personal stuff, my dad had just passed away, so I had kinda been out of the loop. When I finally heard the song, I was like it's dope, he sounded great on it. I didn't picture 50 on a track like that, but he killed it.. Im happy with it."

6. Put Ya Hands Up [Jahlil]- Put ya hands up is a prime example of why Jahlil is in demand right now. Simple production that he makes sound complex…he definitely gets the job done. *puts hands up*

7. Wait Until Tonight [Scoop Deville]- Hottest "commercial" joint from 50 in a while. Almost sounds like a radio song someone else put out, and 50 flipped it better like in the early 2000's. Scoop puts Bobby Womack's "If you think You're Lonely Now" to good use, considering the song's classic status. Crisp drums make this a banger and def one for the ladies. *plays Womack song*

8. You Took My Heart [Trox]- The producer incorporates this sample perfectly with great drum programming. Hard, old school vibe makes this a stand out cut. You'll either love it or hate it, I appreciate the beat… I'm a fan.

Trox on creating You Took My Heart: "I thought it was pretty funny that 50 took the simplest beat out of the batch. If I had tracked that beat out, there would've only been 3 files total. Definitely loved what 50 did to it though; reminds me of the old G-Unit mixtures."

9. Off & On [Street Radio]- How many times is Fif gonna use tupac samples? Who knows, but this one fits Fif to the T (no pun intended). Street Radio makes great use of samples on the hook to give it just enough of a switch-up on a simple loop to make it complete. The simple drums actually add to the track.

10. Nah, Nah, Nah [Ky Miller] Another simple but perfect instrumental for 50 to spit to. One of his most lyrical performances of the tape. the simple hook off setting the more intricate verses.

(Bonus) Stop Cryin' [!llmind]- Not the typical production from illmind, but catering to Fif's style. Hard drums and driving synths make this track something 50 fans, and illmind fans alike will love.

!llmind on creating Stop Cryin': "The beat was made around the same week that I made the beat for Skyzoo's "Speakers On Blast". That was when I was creating beats entirely on the ASR-10 Keyboard. I knew I wanted to make something hard with an easy pocket to ride to, so i heard that drum break and chopped and re-programmed it. The synths and bass were from Reason (with a little tweaking of course). When I layed down the melody, i knew it was something that 50 would murder!"

I can't lie, I was skeptical of this project before hearing it, but… I was pleasantly surprised. 50 made a wise choice to bring it back to the formula that worked so well for him on his first two albums. He incorporated a new twist here and there, and chose his production wisely. If this wasn't officially dubbed a mixtape, and was released as an actual album, I think it would def have moved some units.

50 on The Big 10: "I just released a mixtape. It's a full body of work. It's 11 cuts actually. Technically it's an album, because it's all original material. Everything that's there I reached out to producers and paid them to do the production. I'm excited... I feel the momentum of it." -(HollyWood Scoop) That you did, and you did it well Fif… Propers. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Mobb Deep- Black Cocaine Review

Over the years The Infamous have built a strong, die-hard fan base for their gritty street music, and these fans have been waiting a good minute for Prodigy and Havoc to give them a taste of something new as a team. While this 5 track EP doesn't give them all that they'd wished for, it has still created enough hype to keep their hopes up and leave them anticipating what's to come.

Dead Man Shoes [PROD BY BEAT BUTCHA] An unexpected track choice for a Mobb intro. This one is a little more hype than what we have heard them open with over the years… from the the delivery of the lyrics, down to the Bounty Killer feature. Simple beat, but Beat Butcha delivers that hard, solid backdrop that P & Hav need to talk their shit. The production gets the job done and sets the tone for Amerikaz Nightmares to bring that Murda Muzik back.

Black Cocaine [PROD BY ALCHEMIST] Feels good to hear something that brings us back to past QB anthems from the duo with a twist, and teaming up with Alc again to try and bring that classic sound back is only right. Gritty pianos and dark heavy bass drive the track. Although some of the piano chords seem to give the beat a happy feel at times, their vocal tones and grimy verses take over- letting u know… there's nothing nice here, Dun.

Conquer [PROD BY HAVOC] Off rip u know this one is a problem. Even with the same sample chop repeating throughout, Hav does the beat justice with the bass line, switching it up here and there just enough to keep it moving. Mobb boasts about maintaining their top spot, while the brass gives the track that epic, triumphant sound.

Get It Forever [PROD BY ALCHEMIST] Something a lot of 90s hip hop heads have been waiting for for a minute. Production might sound redundant in comparison to more recent trends, but is undoubtedly reminiscent of the era that Mobb and Nas played a key role in defining and perfect for these 3 QB emcees to do what they do best. Sample and perfectly clashing drums are on point for this type of joint. Couldn't ask for more.

Last Days [PROD BY FREAK BEATS] Piano and a mean guitar make this probably the most standout cut on the EP. This one should catch the ear of the younger generation and the new class of producers on the come up. The instrumentation paired with an undeniable flow makes you wish you could hear M-O-B-B like this more often and was catered perfect to the Queensbridge natives.

Although music has evolved a lot since the 90's Mobb era where their simple braggadocios rhymes, and their to the point depictions of violence and hood life reigned supreme- I think the duo have proved with this that they can still hold their own. What they have shown with this EP is that they can still be the classic Mobb Deep we love to hear, and make a newer twist work for them without straying too far out of their lane. That throwback sound was what loyal mob fans were missing with their last release under G-Unit, that created doubt in their future. I'm not sure that they can ever replicate that exact feeling we got when we listened straight through classic Mobb Deep albums back in the day… but they can still keep our attention, and def know how to leave the fans wanting more! Hopefully we will see a full length album release from them sooner than later. Overall, I give it a 3.5 out of 5

#1 The writers here at iStandardProducers.com focus mostly on the beats … obviously – hence the name “PRODUCERS” in iStandardProducers.com… however we are still reviewing the record as a whole.

#2 EVERY track gets equal shine…

#3 You know how we do it…we don’t check the credits until the album is heard in its entirety.

Intro: Dope intro that definitely sets the dark, street tone of the tape. For someone who’s never been to Chi Town, this intro will more than likely keep them from booking that trip.

Amerikkkas Worst Nightmare: [PROD BY HONORABLE C.N.O.T.E] The news clip intro blends perfectly with Track #2, which has that eerie, movie score feel. L.E.P. rode the beat like they made it, flow is on point. The hook on this track was a bit plain to me though, for an album opener.

25th hour: [PROD BY J.U.S.T.I.C.E LEAGUE] My personal favorite on the tape. L.E.P.’s flow on this one reminds me of some classic Mobb Deep, lyrics and flow are powerful… if you grind, you will relate. To fully appreciate this, you have to listen for the intricacy of this beat; the eerie synth, choir, church bells, heartbeat sounds and strategically placed echoes… not to mention that Guitar! Yea, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League Murdered this track.

Faces: [PROD BY ROC & MAYNE] The bassline and keys breathe life into an overused sample. However, this is my favorite use of this sample (Cerrone- “In The Smoke”) that I’ve heard yet. Classic break that transitions nicely into drums with a live feel & dope instrumentation. Count and Moonie get deep on “Faces” and paint a picture for the listeners with a story telling flow that I’m really feeling. The tragic story they are spitting about is explained in the outro of the track by a news report.

Rush Hour: [PROD BY J.U.S.T.I.C.E LEAGUE] Another dopeboy beat with menacing orchestral synths, fast hi hats and snare rolls perfect for Meek Mill or anyone from the MMG camp. Overall another solid production from J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. While Meek Mill overshadows L.E.P. on this one, they still hold their own. This one is def a single for the streets…Turnt Up!

White House: [PROD HONORABLE C.N.O.T.E] L.E.P. isn’t aiming for radio play, but I’m sure the hood will be running this one back. Driving synths and Hard Drums… type of beat that makes you want to break something. Enough Said.

Claim My Shit: [PROD BY @HEISDRFOXX] Another cut the streets will go crazy over. Beat is reminiscent of most lackluster, trap anthem tracks… I can’t think of anything that makes this beat stand out. L.E.P. is going Hard at somebody, glad its not me.

Johnny Cochran: [PROD BY CHASE N CASHE] Count Bodied this unconventional Chase n Cashe beat! Spooky synths and strings give this beat a New age hip-hop horror film feel. If Tales from the Hood was coming out in 2012, this would be the theme music.

Click Clack: [PROD BY PHOENIX for THE SOUNDKILLERS] This is the first beat on the project that I’m not really feeling. If L.E.P. didn’t decide to kill this it would have been skip worthy. Dion Primo saved the day, the hook caught my ear as soon as the track came on. What’s a Gangsta Tape without a reference to guns or money being your chick?

Zombie Land: [PROD BY J-KITS] Fitting track for Now or Neva’s Halloween release. Fellow Chicago native Lupe Fiasco drops a pretty dope verse on Zombie Land; one of the most talked about tracks prior to the release of the project, and it lived up to its hype. Dope hook and Concept, overall a solid track. I love L.E.P.’s style and flow over up top beats. This one is simple but the switch-ups and eerie, yet soulful melody give it an epic feel.

Streetz Talkin: Definitely a street anthem, the beat and hook make this one radio worthy (after some editing, of course). The beat starts off slow during the hook, but picks up as they get into their verses. You can tell from L.E.P.’s flow that they mean what they say and they are speaking from experience, not just spitting written stories from a notebook, which gives tracks like this one an authentic feel that listeners relate to. Another real solid joint on this project.

We Want our Money: [PROD BY DONYEA'G] Again, L.E.P. seems to stand out more on beats like this although, I’m not a fan of this beat in particular. This simple beat with a choir sample works well with Moonie’s aggressive, back n forth style flow. The beat’s intro is too long and takes away from the suspense of the track. By the end of the cut, I found myself disappointed there was no hook, no switch-up, or no drop in the beat where the hook would be. The sample is off at points, but somehow that manages to add a unique element to the track.

Baghdad: [PROD BY HIT-BOY] One of the hardest beats on the project… the tone of this track reminds me of Jay-z’s “Where I’m From.” While the beat doesn’t change much, aside from drum rolls and drops, Moonie & Count’s wordplay mesh with this beat perfectly to make it complete. Bass & synth pave the way for talks of street life, which I’m sure will resonate with those who know what Crook County living is like.

Now or Neva: [PROD BY ANIMAL] Greatness. Producer Animal lives up to his name with this one, analyzing this sample perfectly along with impeccable chop work. Drums are simple but knocking and the sample couldn’t have been better for the message L.E.P. is conveying in this track (and the project in its entirety). I can’t really ask for more from this one.

Closer: [PROD BY FRANK DUKES] The production is dope on this, and the mix makes the hook fit perfectly as if it were part of the sample. Live drums give it a raw feel, which helps to preserve the cohesive, hood vibe of the tape, seeing as this is one of the more commercial joints on it. The placement of the track doesn’t fit well in the transitions of tracks.

I Just Wanna: [PROD BY YOUNG RY & M3RGE] Didn’t expect the drums to drop like that! The swing is fitting for a “chick track” or a “strip club joint” Can’t go wrong with the piano melody, and the synth on the hook complements it perfectly (Dion Primo on the hook with another winner). Not a typical L.E.P. joint but refreshing to hear from them, as it shows their versatility. I’m glad L.E.P. did something for the ladies and is covering different bases with out straying too far from their signature sound. Getting a verse from Shawnna, another fellow Chicagoan, makes this track complete.

Last Dance: [PROD BY J.U.S.T.I.C.E LEAGUE] Having an outro from J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League is sure to end your project with a bang. While the cinematic instrumentation is flawless, the drums don’t seem to fit well with the rest of the composition. Once again, L.E.P. refuses to dumb it down for the masses, and they spit it how it is… this one might be too much for a lot of people, but I respect it. An all-together solid track.

Outro: [PROD BY FRANK DUKES] While this is only shout outs over a beat, the beat and vocals lack the quality the rest of the project offers. The feel is fitting for the credits rolling, but not for the hard theme of the tape. Shout out to Count!

Wide open feat. PACMAN [PROD BY TN2 PRODUCTIONS]: Best track ever! …. Nah but really, we did this track a couple years ago now so I feel like the sound quality is lacking on it, but perfect for a hardcore L.E.P. track. Sample and Hard drums create the backdrop for L.E.P to do what they do best. Not too much I can say about a track I produced without being bias, so you’ll have to listen for yourselves! More great music to come from L.E.P. and TN2 productions soon. ** R.I.P. Pacman, a feature on this track, who passed away before the release of this project. **

Wall to Wall, this was a universally dope project; I give it a 4 out of 5. The one big issue I had with this was the track order. If some of these tracks were in different places on the album, I feel like it would have sounded more cohesive and listeners would be more likely to play this straight through. The transitions were rough, and the last half of the project was better flow wise than the first half. As far as production, there were a few songs that I think L.E.P. could have def used something better for, but for the most part they chose their beats well. Much respect to L.E.P. for always keeping it real, fans recognize and appreciate the validity of what you choose to put in your music.

Also, as a result of the release of “Now or Neva” and its depictions of Chi Town streets, Chicago Tourism revenue has dropped 60% lol Shout out to the Homies!

SXSW Mobile Studio Mixtape Ft. TN2 Productions

The Unique Squared Mobile Studio recently recorded and put together a mixtape at the SXSW Festival (earlier this year in Austin, Texas). Musicians and Music lovers come from all over the U.S. to attend the 3 day festival that featured some of the hottest artists out, and the most talented up and comers making noise on the scene. Many of these artists took 30 mins out of their schedules, in between interviews and performances, to record a track in the Mobile Studio. A select group of producers submitted beats for the artists to rock over.. and TN2 Productions will be one of the many talented Producers featured on the tape! Unique Squared and their sponsors chose some of the tracks laid down at SXSW and put together this project. The tape is really stirring up a buzz, so hopefully a good amount of people get to hear our work! The upcoming release was just announced; check out the article, pics, and vid of the mobile studio and the process, by clicking the pic below.

Review of Reks- R.E.K.S. album

-Reks has been making noise on the underground scene for a while now, collaborating with some of hip hop’s most notable artists and most sought after producers. His newest LP is no exception, the line up on “R.E.K.S.” (Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme) has had hip hop fans all over buzzing with anticipation for its release.-

1. 25th Hour (prod by DJ Premier)
It’s hard to go wrong with ANYthing produced by Premo and The 25th Hour doesn’t disappoint. Opening the LP with “Ima write this here rhyme like Guru’s in the passenger”, Reks attacks the track without letting up. A solid premier produced intro.

2. Thin Line (prod by Pete Rock)
Following a Premo cut with a Pete Rock joint could win over even the pickiest of hip hop fans regardless of who’s spittin’. Reks’ rapid delivery does this justice though. A classic sample chop, scratch heavy track with that hard, eerie feel. Two cuts in and I’m already breaking the timbs out the closet.

3. Limelight (prod by Nottz)
The Nottz produced “Limelight” knocks and keeps the album’s rugged sound going, putting listeners in one of many’s favorite era of Hip Hop. Is it just me or has a good amount of rappers tried to channel their inner Slick Rick over Nottz beats.

4. Kill Em (prod by Sean C & LV)
While i spent the majority of “Kill Em” nodding my head, by the 2nd verse it was starting to sound a bit monotonous from number 1 to this track. Worthy production from Sean C & LV.

5. This Or That (prod by Statik Selektah)
Exactly what I was waiting for after track 2 or 3. Great production and chop work by Statik Selektah. Drums are on point and the rolling bassline is undeniable. I’m going to have to agree with Reks on this one “Kanye West keep your clothes on”.

6. Why Cry f/ Styles P (prod by The Alchemist)
Was expecting more from Alchemist on this, not saying that its not molded perfect for Reks and SP, but definitely not one of my favorite Alchemist beats. None of the elements of this one make it a standout record.

7. Face Off f/ Termanology (prod by Sha Money XL)
Classic mid 2000s G Unit sounding production from Sha Money, which was actually refreshing to hear. While Reks did what he does best, and did spit a strong verse… Termanology easily steals the show.

8. The Wonder Years (prod by Hi Tek)
Another unexpected beat selection from one of the most versatile producers out. Production is simple, but effective in achieving the hard feel of the track. Reks gets his story telling flow in and sings the hook. Not one of my favorite records on the project.

9. This Is Me f/ DJ Corbet (prod by Mike Frey)
Jazzy beat with rolling piano and a smooth bassline. Another simple but effective production. This joint has a real chill vibe and a dope hook, I dig it.

10. Mr. Nobody (prod by Statik Selektah)
Statik and Reks link up again for “Mr. Nobody” These two mesh perfectly. Classic Hip Hop beat over a female vocal sample with dirty hi hats. Reks gets real deep and personal on this autobiographical track, he spits about his childhood struggles and his parents’ drug problems.

11. The Underdog (prod by Blaze P)
Blaze P did a great job analyzing this jazz sample and turning it into something hype for Reks. The drums and Reks’ flow give this cut a bounce that definitely had me nodding, Personally 1 of my favorite joints on the LP.

12. U Know f/ Freeway (prod by Hi Tek)
Tapping Hi-Tek again for “U Know,” this time for a more recent sounding track, thats a little more along the lines of Reflection Eternal Tek. The block orchestra type sound is perfect for the likes of Reks and Freeway.

13. Cigarettes f/ Lil Fame of M.O.P. & Atticabarz (prod by Fizzy Womack)
When you see M.O.P on any track you expect it to punch you in the face…. Not the case here! Simple layed back sample loop with MPC swing, boom bap kicks and snares.

14. Mascara (The Ugly Truth) (prod by Statik Selektah)
A bittersweet production from Statik selektah. If it weren’t for the drums livening this track up, it would be depressing and could possibly be an Ablify commercial. Simple piano loop with live sounding drums. Not feeling the hook on this one, but Reks flow is on point.

15. Like A Star (prod by Statik Selektah)
Statik makes up for the last cut here. Another simple but effective track. Sample loop with minor chops and drums. Primo style cuts on the hook make it complete. Sounds specifically tailored for Reks

16. Self Titled (prod by Statik Selektah) [Bonus Track]
The Bonus track is another example of the great musical chemistry between Statik and Reks. A classic piano sample chopped up and brought to life by the drums and record cuts.

Over all, this was a pretty solid project. Some of the tracks were disappointing, as I feel like some of my favorite producers may have given Reks some of their C and D list beats. For the most part, Reks’ flow kept up with some CLASSIC, veteran artists and producers on this LP and he gets my props for that. I give R.E.K.S. a 3/5. This LP officially drops on March 8th, check it out. 3 out of 5

Being included in this issue is big in the music industry and can easily change some of these artists' lives and careers in a major way.. so good luck to all my fellow up and comers! Yes, some of these artists are my close friends, but I chose strictly based on quality and quantity of music, and their industry Buzz. There is a lot of politics involved in their choices, so XXL staff may choose some based on that , but these are MY guesses for who will (and should) make it on the cover, in no particular order.

Every week I will post a new beat for yall as Beat of the Week. They will be the tracks that we personally like best, or the beat that has gotten the most attention during the week.

This particular track I chose for both reasons, although it is still a work in progress I felt like I had to share with yall :) You may start hearing more sample based stuff coming, everyone seems to love the older beats... SO.. watch out. Been doin some serious digging!

Review of Joe Budden's Mood Muzik 4

Did this review for istandardproducers.com, every month I review a new album or project for their track by track feature .. all track by track reviews for istandard focus mainly on production. Thought I would share it with my awesome supporters!

Seems that you either love Joe Budden or hate him, but this release has certainly been highly anticipated by loyal mouse fans since the last installment of the Mood Muzik series.....

Intro (Pray For Me)
Simple beat over Van Halen's "Right Now." Why he chose a beat with the same sample as Invisible Man (on the last Mood Muzik) is beyond me. Simple, but effective and fitting as an intro for a spitter like Budden.

Aftermath
As if the beat wasn't epic enough, the Rocky sample just adds to it while Budden talks his shit. "Be competitive, coke heads, go line for line." Enough said.

Role Reversal
This real soulful beat is perfect for this personal story of taking care of of someone else's son and how he can relate. Production is great and the lyrics fit the beat and Mood Muzik theme, but the beat doesn't seem to.

Come Along
Even with the hard guitar and stuttering snares, this track seems too simple and boring. Verses are on point but the hook is weak, i feel this one could have been left off the project. Filler.

Mop salad(skip)
LOL….. that is all. Seems like a skit that would have been on an old school album.

Sober Up
Good programming, great lyrics, and a crooked I feature make this one of the best tracks on the project. Not a typical beat for Joe Budden, but keeps with the current sound. J Cardim is absolutely a beast for this one.

Dessert For Thought
Not a bad production for a tired sample. Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues" has been used by numerous producers/artists and AGAIN, even Budden has used it before. With Styles P, Pusha T, and Budden though, they could have just flowed over the bass line.

1000 faces
A Cohesive fit with the songs typical of the mood muzik albums. Up and coming producer Beewirks definitely used this Creed sample effectively, but I could do without the voice sample on the hook. Drum programming is on point, the drums have that knock that's needed in deep tracks like this one.

Inseparable
Exactly what i expected from the mood muzik series. Another perfect production from Beewirks, Budden should have followed the same formula for the previous track. Great hook and vocal melody by Mela Machinko. Instrumentation is soft and dark and the hard drums again drive the track.

The Shoes (skit)
I don't really see the place for skits on newer albums. These skits specifically seem to interrupt the mood of the project while Budden is giving the listeners the opposite feeling and getting deep lyrically.

Remember The Titans
Great beat, reminds me of an old Desert Storm beat with a current spin on it. This is easily the hardest song on the project and every artist featured (Fabolous, Lloyd Banks, & Royce Da 5'9) does it justice.

Welcome To Real Life
Dope but simplistic production, then again if your listening for lyrics on this one, the production doesn't have to be big. Heartfelt hook by Emanny, on point and cohesive.

No Idea
Another J Cardim beat, reminiscent of something 40 would make for drake. The beat has that mellow vibe that seems a constant on this project. Sounds good with Budden over it, but after hearing the hook, I was wishing it was drake.

Black Cloud
The lead single off MM4 and definitely what fans expect from Budden. Good song with a movie score type of production. Something about this beat seems awkward with Budden's flow, I wouldn't have chose this one as a single.

Follow Your Lead
This is the standout track on the album to me. Follow Your Lead gives you that feeling that you expect in the type of tracks typical of Joe Budden and his story telling. The beat fits perfectly with the emotion being conveyed in this track about his faith.

Stuck In the Moment
Joe Budden plus Just Blaze production equals greatness, now only if we could have got this track officially finished. I would have liked to hear it earlier in the album, or as the album closer. This track had me waiting for the beat to drop. Great instrumentation and use of the crowd, but the drums.. or Kick drum… could have been crisper.

If All else Fails
Great beat, but out of place as the previous song seemed to be fitting to end the Tape. Bonus Track?

Overall this album is definitely listenable, but not without skipping through. The point of the Mood Muzik series is to make the listener feel the music and lyrics, and he was successful in that in most of these tracks.

The mood of this one however was depressing and the project as a whole.. definitely has an Emo feel. I give this 3 out of 5.. slits to the wrist.

Tn2 is on twitter! Yes I know to alot of people twitter appears corny and cliche, but it has been a HUGE help to my marketing campaign as far as getting our name out there. Anyone who is anyone in ATL (where I live) music/art scene is on twitter, and I can hit them with a simple little post and they get right back to me... quick and efficient. I guess its sort of like an exclusive club, you have to find the right group of people (the ppl making moves) to follow and get them to follow you back, your posts and the people that follow you give u instant credibility or denial.

Jody Breeze- The Album before the Album

Yes the grind has paid off in a little, but significant way! After listening sessions and meetings and conversations it seems that one of the two tracks we produced on this quasi-album, might just be Breeze's single from his upcoming album. I have been getting crazy feedback from this and it's really helping to up our stock.. TN2!! We produced #2 Oh My God & #4 She Dont Want You.... I am going to link yall, with the warning that neither song is officially mixed yet... enjoy!

Jody Breeze/Young Gunna Records & DJ Bobby Black have teamed up to present..."Album Before the Album." Not to be confused with a typical mixtape, this collection of original songs will give fans a sneak peak into what they can expect from the official forthcoming album.

Ok yall, I know I been slackin' on my blogging, but I'm back at it! And what better way to start off then with a post about Your Future Favorite Rapper.. (and my past.. & current favorite lol).

I recently started this internet campaign to promote Laws' new mixtape/street album titled "Your Future Favorite Rapper." The album is hosted by Dj Smallz and presented and backed by super producers J.U.S.T.I.C.E. LEAGUE, who also produced a couple tracks on the album. It really has some great tracks on it, and the response from reviews, blogs, fans, has been CRAZY! I have never seen an artist go from 0 to 60 so quickly, and I really can't think of anyone more deserving.. Laws has got the drive to take this a long way. Take a listen for yourselves!
